Running Events

I have been joining running events. Events like these are starting to gain popularity in the Philippines. What's sad though is most runners don't mind throwing their plastic cups everywhere, even if there's a place to put it. Runners should be blamed here, but I think the organizers should still do something about it. They should at least remind everyone to do their part to help the environment. It's everyone's responsibility.

Note: For those who are not into running, all running events have water stations were runners can rehydrate. Plastic cups with water are usually placed in long tables where runners can easily pick up.

Are You Done?

I have an officemate, known for being funny, cracking jokes now and then. One time, he was doing some configuration with our Manager's computer:

Our Manager: Hey Cris, are you finished?
Cris: No. I'm not Finnish, I'm a Filipino.
Our Manager: No, no, I meant are you done?
Cris: No. I'm not Dan, I'm Cris!

We are all laughing, including our Manager. I think I've read this joke somewhere, but it still made me laugh. He was able to deliver it perfectly in the real world :)

Google's Pacman Doodle

In tribute to the 30th birthday of the classic Pac-man game, Google made the first interactive logo to be ever displayed in their home page last May 22. Did you miss the fun? You can still access it at http://www.google.com/pacman/ . Click insert coin button to start the game. Try clicking the insert coin button twice and see what happens. :)

Robocup

Yep, I spelled it right, it's Robocup and not Robocop.
It's an international robotics competion with an interesting goal:
By mid-21st century, a team of fully autonomous humanoid robot soccer players shall win the soccer game, complying with the official rule of the FIFA, against the winner of the most recent World Cup.

It's a pretty interesting goal and scary as well. Soon, they can think for themselves! At first they'll play football, soon they may conquer the whole world! :)

Tulog (Asleep)

I was with my wife in an emergency room. It was nothing serious, she was there for observation. Anyways, we had to stay overnight while we wait for the laboratory results. It's an emergency room, so it was difficult to sleep. I doze off now and then, but most of the time, I was awake. Beside us is an adult male with a companion which appears to be his son. The adult male is lying on his bed while his son, is sitting near his bed, sleeping. Suddenly, his father with a loud voice said: Boy, tulog ka? HUUUY! TULOG KA?! (Boy, are you asleep? HEY! ARE YOU ASLEEP?) Of course, the boy said no, at least not anymore. :)

One Can Never Be Completely Prepared.

So here I was, thinking of all the things I need to prepare for our outing. Our destination will be significantly far, so everything should be considered. I need to check and recheck if my car is in good shape. I checked the tires, tire pressure, spare tire, engine oil, water. I even have a survival bag in the car. It contains all essential things like extra food, extra water, thermal blankets, first aid kit, sewing kit, rope, tape, candles, matches, utility knife... and many more. I tried to cover all scenarios that we may encounter down road. The day came and we were off to our destination. We arrived without any incident. After some hours I realized I forgot something important... my driver's license. Of all the planning that I did, I still forgot one simple but important thing. Lesson learned: Don't plan too much. Besides getting a headache, it tends to distract you from doing simple things, like bringing your driver's license. :)
